Powerful intro! José James' voice still hits me in the soft spots like a freight train. On & On is a comforting cover album paying homage to one of the all-time pillars of modern soul music, Ms. Big Booty Bella herself, Erykah Badu.
The band goes crazy in the absolute best way possible. There’s a controlled madness to this tribute album, an energy that is counter to the iconic Baduizm. However, this contrast in energy sets this tribute album apart from many in that it neither tries to mimic nor does it understate the greatness of the inspiration. This is certainly an album that sounds and feels like a celebration, as it should be!
