Known more commonly by her YouTube persona Kennie J.D., Kennie creates some fascinatingly complex R&B and pop. Surprising, in only that both genres are becoming less and less a haven for creative exploration and genre bending. Genre blending and calling it nuance is a tale as old as Run DMC and Aerosmith. However, actually bending the edges of a genre to see how far you can push it ’til it breaks is a practice in both patience and fearlessness. Kennie manages this feat, both remolding popular genres into variant shapes of their foundations while still being able to keep an ear and eye out for what made those genres popular in the first place.
