Jas Freeman – Purified Solitude

Certainly an interesting album sonically. The breathiness of Freeman definitely lends itself to the heavy electronic influence of much of the music. It sits in this middle space for me of being completely stunning and innovative and being something trendy that most people who tout themselves as “alternative” find themselves doing. I say it sits in the middle because the descriptors of the album could go one way or the other: breathy vocalist, disparate sounds that collide and rub against each other, music that sort of has a menacing edge. It’s all been done before. And better. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that I really enjoyed the album. Ultimately that’s all that matters in the end.
